On Tuesday 15th October, the MMGC Professional Tony Westwood held his away day at Blankney Golf Club Lincolnshire, with 44 golfers turning out to support his day. Despite the torrential rain the previous day, the course was well manicured, dry and the greens were in tiptop condition. This proved to be the recipe for some good golf, which was evident in the high scores returned. The format for the day was a fourball betterball Stableford. The Professional and Club Captain Gerry Stephens teamed up and any pairing not beating their score would be penalised and would pay into the Captains’ Charity. The golf was followed by an excellent two course meal and prize presentation.
The winning pairings were as follows: 1st Neal Wigman and Gordan Hughes with 44 pts. 2nd John Harvey and Joe Carrington 43 pts. 3rd Lady Captain Nancy Denny and Mick Jordan 42 pts. 4th Glenn Price and Richard Grieves 41 pts. 5th Professional Tony Westwood and Club Captain Gerry Stephens 40 pts. Tony’s excellent standard of golf was evident with him achieving an incredible 5 birdies on the front 9 holes and a birdie on the long par 5 finishing hole. The day raised an additional £135 for the Captains charity fund.
