The mist lifted to produce a sunny day for the Captain’s Drive In on Sunday. Incoming Club Captain, Ian Solloway and Lady Captain, Bettyne Norton, were thrilled to see more than 100 members at the Club to support them on their special day.
The first to drive in was Lady Captain, Bettyne with a drive of 107 yards, followed by Club Captain, Ian. Unfortunately Ian topped his drive, nerves taking a hand in his shot, sending the ball 51 yards which caused some frivolity within his group of friends and lots of sympathy from other members there.
The traditional handover of Captaincy then took place in the Clubhouse where the photographs of the outgoing Club and Lady Captain, Jack Inguanta and Liz Snow were replaced with Ian’s and Bettyne’s photos by Club President, Terry Brown and Lady President Chris Cook. Club President Terry congratulated Jack and Liz on their superb year and reminisced about of the events which had taken place , Liz, Jack, Ian and Bettyne all made a small speech. Ian and Bettyne are both thrilled and very honoured to be Club and Lady Captain and look forward to representing the club and to enjoying their year.
The occasion then continued with a superb buffet prepared by Club cook Carol Coller and her team. Clubhouse Manager Angela Gauntlett ensured everything ran smoothly and all the guests were fed and watered!
The guess the yardage sweep was won as follows: Captain’s Drive was Ann Espin with 100 yards, Ann is Bettyne’s sister. Lady Captain’s Drive was won by Club member Ann Evans only 1 yard out with 108 yards
The Combined Drive Total was won by Club member Alan Smith with 200 yards.
Once prize money had been paid the sweep raised ****** for the Captain’s charities, Ian’s is The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance, Bettyne is raising funds for the RNLI.
