One of the key events of the golf club’s year took place this weekend when our 2018 Captain & Lady Captain held their “Drive IN”.
With a lovely sunny day and the best weather of the week in place, both Sandie and Glenn drove off the first tee at 12 noon. They both hit good shots with Lady Captain Sandie Normanton driving 133 yards whilst Club Captain Glenn Price hit a terrific 194 yards, the recent weather cutting out any run on the ball. Over 120 members , friends and family supported and cheered them on 9with a bit of heckling from golfing friends!
After events on the tee the Captain’s handover took place in the Clubhouse with the change of Captain’s photos. Past Lady President, Chris Cook presented outgoing Lady Captain, Bettyne Norton with her photograph after which Bettyne gave a short speech about her year and thanked everyone for their support. Bettyne had raised over £3,000 towards the RNLI, Head Trauma and Club Redecoration. Bettyne, in her new role as Lady President then hung Sandie’s photo on the wall and wished her every success for the year. Sandie made a brief speech about her plans and hopes for 2018 her charity is Dogs for Good – assistance dogs for disabled people. “Rosie” a black Labrador trained by the charity was in attendance and showed how she helps her owner undress by pulling the Captain’s socks off!
Club President Terry Brown thanked outgoing Captain Ian Solloway for his hard work in 2017, presenting him with his photograph. Ian had thoroughly enjoyed his year and had raised £1000 for the Air Ambulance he wished Glenn Price a fantastic 2018.
Glenn discussed his plans for the year and will be raising money for Different Strokes Charity and also course improvements.
With the formalities over, a superb buffet lunch was served for all to enjoy with the Captain’s mingling and meeting everyone, a nice close to the celebrations.
