Following the success of the 9 Back in Time competition last year, Melton Mowbray Golf Club held it again on Friday 2nd August. The competition consisted of 7 teams of four playing a Texas scramble on the current course redesigned to emulate the course when it was 9 holes from 1925 until 1991. There was a great spirit and lots of banter amongst all the golfers and a warm sunny evening would complete the ingredients for a very good evening of golf. The competition was followed by a BBQ, drinks and a prize presentation.
The 9 hole course was set up by the Club Captain and Club Professional and with a shot gun start everyone teed off at 5:30. There were a few fines for players for any small misdemeanours set by the Club Pro and the money went into to the Captains’ charity fund.
The winning teams were as follows: 1st place Paul Hackett, Shaun James, brothers Dick and Charlie Chapman with net 23.9 pts. 2nd Andy Blunt, Kev Robertson, Paul Halford and Ray Smith with net 26.9 pts. 3rd Steve Burton, George Boddy, Brian Haines and Alan Hodgkinson with net 26.8 pts.
