On another very hot day, 160 competitors entered into the annual Cropwell Bishop Stilton Open now in its 4th year. The format for the day was a fourball AM-AM Stableford. The course was in excellent condition, especially the greens which were running true. The fairways encouraged a lot of run on the ball, necessitating players to choose the correct club to stop the ball on the greens. The top 10 teams’ scores were very close with only 10 points separating them all. The winning team, with an excellent score of 100 points, just pipped the second team by 1 point.
The winning teams were as follows:
1st with 100 pts Gary Baxter, Michael Barnett, Glyn Dennocks and David Stevenson a team made up of 3 from Six Hills and 1 from Kirby Muxloe.
2nd with 99 pts MMGC Captain Glenn Price, Vice Captain Gerry Stephens, Eddie Cham and Bob Luke.
3rd with 98 pts MMGC Geoff Townsend, Danny Raven, David Taylor and Kris Owen.
4th with 95 pts MMGC Tim Mortimer, Sam Pollard, Mick Pollard and George Boddy.
5th with 94 pts Chris Budd, Chris Frake, Duncan Spalding and Andy Vernon (Edwalton, Willesly and Woolaton Golf Clubs).
The winners concluded the prize giving with a speech to congratulate everyone on the overall success of the day and especially the excellent preparation of the course under such hot weather conditions when other courses have suffered.
