The last weekend in September saw thirty-six members from Melton Mowbray Golf Club celebrate the end of the season with a visit to Stratford Park Golf and Country Club.
Having overcome the culture shock of a “non-flat” course, the competition was fierce on both days playing a team AmAm with one lady and one gent to score. Twenty-two of the party featured on the prize list over the two days. Nearest the pins were won by Alison Savage and David Hirst, but the highlight of the weekend had to be Alison Savage scoring an eagle at the par five third up a very steep hill.
On a challenging course and nice hotel, a great time was enjoyed by all, culminating in us sitting in the bar cheering on Europe to a fantastic victory at the Ryder Cup – even with the nerve wracking finale.
Having organised the away weekends over the past 6 years, David and Janet are standing down and Paul and Kate are stepping into their shoes. David and Janet were thanked for all their hard work (and long sufference) and we are sure that all future events will be as enjoyable and entertaining.
Finally, on Sunday 5th October, the team entertained Sleaford GC for our last match of the season earning a strong 5.5-2.5 match victory.
Winners were Adrian Cairns and Penny Dodds, Haydn and Liz Snow, Dick Chapman and Margaret Smale, Mike and Gill Hoggan, Jim McQuillan and Dawn Potts, while Owen and Chris Cook achieved the half.
