This year’s Captain’s Away Weekend proved to be one to remember as members enjoyed a perfect mix of camaraderie, competition, and sunshine at Kenwick Park & Market Rasen from 6th to 8th of September.
Led by our Captain, Phil Curtis, the weekend welcomed twenty-eight members for three days of top-notch golf, laughter, and evening entertainment. With the stresses of daily life left firmly behind, players immersed themselves in the spirit of the game and the joy of shared company.
The Golf
The weekend teed off on Saturday afternoon with a relaxed two ball scramble to warm up the swings. Followed on Sunday with a four ball better ball Stableford and on Monday with a singles Stableford. Over the weekend the traditional “Wyder Cup” format was the challenge.
Day one the captains team took the lead, on day two the vice-captain fought back to within one point.
The final round at Market Rasen went to the wire with the vice-captain storming into a strong lead only to be thwarted by the captain’s team making a strong challenge from the back of the field.
The match over the weekend tied at 14 points each, the trophy remains with the captain’s team for a further year.
Off the Course
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Captain’s Weekend without some evening fun. The Dinner on Sunday night was a highlight, with excellent food, speeches, and perhaps a few too many drinks. Special thanks to Ade Cairns Vice Captain, Doug Wooley for organizing the order of play and Mick Curtis for organising the accommodation and to everyone who kept the event alive well into the early hours!
Until Next Year…
As the sun set on my weekend, spirits remained high despite tired legs and sore heads. The Captain’s Away Weekend reminded us all why we love this club – for the golf, yes, but even more for the people.
Here’s to next year – and to even lower scores, and another great venue selected by your Vice Captain Ade Cairns, who will communicate all the details in the near term.
