On Sunday 11th August, 27 Ladies and 12 Gents turned out to take part in Lady Captain’s Day on a blustery and intermittently rainy day. The weather held long enough in the morning for the Lady Captain, Nancy Denny, to see all the three ball teams on their way in a Stableford competition. Recording individual and team scores, the players also had to remember that on all Par 3s the ladies had to tee off on the gent’s tees and the gents had to tee off on the ladies’ tees. Additionally, a 45 year old 3-wood and 4-wood previously owned the Lady Captain’s mother were provided for the players to use off the 11th tee in lieu of their own drivers, which several players found to be an advantageous challenge.
The overall individual winner of the Lady Captain’s Day bowl was Sandie Hudson with 40 points.
Team winners from the Ladies’ section were as follows:
1st: Avis Webb, Sandie Hudson and Jackie Fisher 81 points
2nd: Dee Hughes, Pam Parker and Sally Hudson 71 points
3rd: ‘Drina Terzza, Joan Allen and Maureen McCall . 68 points
The top team in the men’s section was Chris Radford, Haydn Snow and John Squires with 86 points and nearest the pin on the 16th was Mike Hoggan.
