Melton Scratch team led out by Team Captain Jody Honeywood took on local rivals Stapleford Park on what was a very warm and sunny evening with a slight breeze and the course in excellent condition. Both teams would be up for this first match of the season to open with a win in order to give some impetus for the forthcoming matches. Melton were runner up in the league last season and did not get promoted due to a team leaving the league so only Market Harborough eventually were promoted.
The scoring players were: Sam Pollard won 3&2, George Boddy won 1 up, Craig Hallum won 7&6, Dave Poolan won 1 up, Guy Rayson halved, Jody Honeywood Team Captain won 3&1, Neil Wigman won 2&1 giving Melton an overall 6 1/2 to 1 1/2 win.
