Ladies’ Hickory Day – 1925 Style

Nine teams of 4 ladies and 1 team of 4 gents gathered on Wednesday 11th June for a step back in time to 1925. Two small pencil carry bags with 7 hickory clubs in each were provided for each team and the clubs ranged from a driver and ‘brassy’ fairway wood to a niblick and flat putter via the equivalent of a 5, 7 and 9 iron. The format was a Texas Scramble and on completion of the 9-hole competition, several ladies enquired about purchasing a hickory club to replace their more modern and less effective club!

Winners with a nett 27 were Penny Dodds, Carol Spiers, Ann de Bono and Angela Heathcote. Second place with a nett 29 ocb were Liz Snow, Lady Captain Jackie Fisher, Melita Copley and Alison Cavani. In third place with 29 were Fay Brook, Janet Bentley, Rachel Catton and Pat Barton (with assistance from Sue Millward.)

Best costume of the day went to Nancy Denny, Hilary Denny, Jackie Watts and Julia Brown with her infamous cigarette and holder.
