On Wednesday 29th May, 22 MMGC home members played host to 14 ladies from Bedfordshire GC. MMGC Lady Captain Nancy Denny’s sister-in-law, Hilary Denny, is currently Lady Captain of Bedfordshire GC, hence the reason for the exchange. Nine teams made up of members from both clubs took part in a friendly Florida Scramble in decidedly non-Florida weather. Luckily the rain held off until all teams were safely back in the Clubhouse and the course again was in superb condition.
Gross scores were recorded by each team for the 18 holes and then 10% of combined handicaps was deducted from the total. Four of the teams scored sub 70, but first place was taken by Sue Hitchman and Liz Clark of MMGC with Judi Monico and Sheila Fairey of Bedfordshire GC with a nett 65.8. The team had a superb gross 35 of the front nine which included 2 birdies. In second place were Lady Captain Nancy Denny, Bettyne Norton and Sue Bennett of MMGC and Lady Captain Hilary Denny of Bedfordshire GC with a nett 66.8. Nearest the pin on the 14th was Julia Brown of MMGC and closest the line on the 1st was Anne Creed, also of MMGC.
Bedfordshire GC look forward to hosting the Melton ladies in a return match, scheduled for July 26th.
