On Saturday 2 June, nearly 100 golfers turned out to compete in the Ludlow Bowl (handicaps 0 – 20) or the Compton Cup (handicaps 21 – 28).
Both competitions are bogey competitions, where the player competes against the course and, with the course presented in excellent condition, some good results was expected. Twenty-one players played to their handicaps or better – almost a quarter of the turnout!
A field of 74 golfers played in the Ludlow Bowl and the winners were as follows:
1st: Sam Pollard 3 up on count back
2nd: Bev Blake 3 up on count back
3rd: Brendon Boyce 3 up.
The winners in the twos sweep were: Peter Poolan, Billy Kevan, David Taylor, Alan Brough, Tom Smith, Brian Cole, Mike Catlin, Ben Turner, Tony Robinson, Gerry Stephens, Sam Parker and Phil Curtis x 2.
The Compton Cup Round 2 attracted 24 golfers on the same day and the winners were as follows:
1st: Roger Alexander 3 up
2nd: Russell Freeman level on count back
3rd: Phillip Gray level.
There was no twos sweep so all the prize money was spilt between the winners.
