Wednesday 22nd May saw 24 golfers turn out at Melton Mowbray Golf course to compete in the qualifying round of the Green King Speckled Hen Invitation Competition organised by Ben Goodson of Sporting Class on behalf of Green King. The competition is a pairs Stableford where both scores are added together to achieve the overall pairing score. The winners of this round would go forward to Slavely Hall to compete again against winners of the other qualifying rounds and then, if successful, they would play the final at Catalonia Spain.
The morning started dry but with a slight breeze that subsided as the day went on and the temperature rose, assisting the ball to run further. With the course in excellent condition all golfers were looking forward to the golfing challenge ahead.The winning pairings were:
1st Steve Lockward & John Marriot from Sleaford GC with an excellent 66 points, 2nd Ashley York & David Gateway 61 points from Great Oakley Cricket Club, 3rd Aubrey Johnson & John Goff from the Blue Bell Pub with 59 points. Wooden spoon David Robinson & Kelvin Patterson from Pavers Sports Club with 47 points. Longest Drive Neil Southwell from Stoke Rochford, Nearest the Pin 7th Steve Heenan from Somercotes Snooker Club.
