We have a very active and friendly membership with a golfing calendar spread throughout the year with competitions and friendly team games.
As a member of Melton Mowbray Golf Club it is easy to become involved in both golfing and social activities in the Men’s, Ladies’, Seniors’, Mixed or Juniors’ sections where there are many prestigious trophies to be played for. MMGC also supports charity competitions and the club participates in county competitions, such as Scratch League (Men’s and Ladies) and County Foursomes. Mixed golf is also popular at Melton with several trophies to be played for and a busy Mixed Team schedule.
Men’s Section
Along with the Scratch League team, MMGC also runs B, C and under-35 teams. All members are encouraged to participate in these matches which are played both home and away. Some of the highlights of the year are Captain’s Day, and the Men’s Open Competitions.
Ladies’ Section
Lady members at MMGC have full parity with the men. There are no restrictions as to when they can play. Ladies’ Day is a Wednesday and they have the privilege of a reserved tee time between 9.00-10.30am.
The golf course is ideal for lady members of all ages, as it is an easy-walking, but challenging parkland course. The ladies have a busy fixtures list and hold competitions on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They also have Scratch League and Handicap League teams, and friendly matches are played by the Ladies’ Team and Senior Ladies’ Team. Our Ladies’ Summer Am-Am and Scary Scramble are very popular with both members and visitors. In 2022 we ran our first Women into Golf program which proved extremely popular and we are very glad to say that some of our new lady members now have their handicaps and are entering competitions. Seniors’ Section
Our Seniors’ day is Tuesday with a reserved tee time of 7.45-10.00 am. This well-supported, very active section plays many competitions and has an extensive match fixture list. The Club holds three Senior Opens — Gent’s Spring, Gent’s Summer and a Seniors’ Mixed.
Juniors’ Section
Here at Melton we are very proud of our Juniors. Our Junior organisers ensure that all Junior members are welcomed and integrated into the Club.
Our Junior Section is well-organised and well supported, providing the opportunity to play golf at all levels of ability. During school holidays there are regular competitions and holiday mixes for them to take part in. We are very proud of the Junior League Team’s record in the County; they have been County Champions three times in five years.
Juniors are coached in playing etiquette, rules, and conduct, and are welcomed on the course and in the Clubhouse at all times. Once they have a handicap they are encouraged to join in the Ladies’ and Gent’s competitions.
Our Professional
Club Professional Tony Westwood is the ideal person to help new-to-golf players begin and develop their golfing journey and to help golfers of all abilities improve and hone their skills. Tony provides regular group coaching sessions for all ages and mentors our Juniors with coaching and advice, meeting them weekly.
