On Wednesday, Melton took on Rutland County in the County Foursomes knockout. The two teams were fairly evenly matched, which would lead to a very close encounter and you would not be disappointed with the standard of play. The pairing of Sam Pollard and George Boddy were 4 down only to pull it back and end all square. The pairing of Craig Hallam and David Poolan took the game by the scruff of the neck and were 4 up and in control. The Rutland pair soon turned the table and put the pressure on Melton by winning a number of holes in a row, leaving it all to do for Melton on the last. Melton were wayward off the tee and Rutland took advantage with a drive down the middle. On the green, the nerves were prevalent with Melton missing an 9 foot putt to leave Rutland 2 putts for the win. The combined overall outcome was a 1 up win for Rutland County.
