On a thundery Thursday afternoon, MMGC Ladies hosted Beeston Fields Golf Club in the quarter final of the Taskers Trophy. As before, the home team had to give a shot per match to allow for home advantage. In the hot and humid afternoon, the course was running very well and, as the greens had just been ironed, they were slick and true to form. Beeston Ladies fielded their A team and provided excellent competition.
Lady Captain, Sandie Normanton and her partner were first in, scoring Melton Ladies their first win, 2 up. Nancy Denny followed quickly with another win of 3 and 2 and ‘Drina Terzza also posted a win, 1 up. MMGC now just needed one point more to guarantee going through to the next round and that was duly provided by Jean Moulds, who not only posted a win of 3 and 2, but has also won all of her five individual Tasker’s matches.
At this point with the result confirmed, the storm hit the course and the remaining ladies still playing were given the option of coming in. Although 1 up on the 16th, Margaret Smale and her partner decided not to brave the rain and thunder and posted an agreed half. However, Julia Brown who was 2 down on the 16th, waited for the storm to abate and played through to the 18th, fighting back to be all square and to give Melton Ladies an additional half point. Melton Ladies won with an impressive 5 points to 2 and are through to the semi-finals which will be played at a neutral venue!
