In the last match of the season, on Thursday 16th August, Melton Mowbray League team took on Rutland Water in a must win match, as the result would put the victors second in the division with the possibility of promotion. The away match at Rutland Water was won by Rutland 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 so this would be a tough task even for Melton playing at home.
The first 4 matches were won by Melton which put them in a good position. However the 5th match was a close one and went to Rutland. In a finishing flourish, the remaining matches all went to Melton giving them an excellent 7 wins to 1. This could mean promotion if Forest Hill or another team apply to join the league.
Well done to all the individuals who have supported the League Team and Team Captain Gerry Stephens.
