After successfully winning the earlier 4 rounds of the County Mixed Interclub Foursomes, the Melton Mowbray team of Sam Pollard, Leah Radford, Callum Relf and Elaine Shelton played in the Final against Lingdale at Rothley Park on Sunday. The Melton team won in fantastic style on a super course, in great weather conditions and watched by an impressive number of supporters from both Clubs.
The Final was played over 36 holes with Sam and Leah receiving one shot per round and Callum and Elaine 7 shots per round.
The first round closed with Sam and Leah 3 up and Callum and Elaine 5 up, but Lingdale came back putting pressure on both Melton pairs and the second round results ended with Sam and Leah 4 down and Callum and Elaine 2 up giving a superb overall combined team result of a 6 up win.
The golf during the day was magical to follow. Sam and Leah’s matches were close through to end of the second round, whilst Callum and Elaine made the most of their shots and stayed ahead of their opponents. There were some magnificent shots played, with first class tee shots, beautiful chips and long putts sunk by all concerned. These matches were a display of some wonderful golf where you really needed to be there to appreciate it. Well done Team Melton!

The County run competition began in 1937 and it is the first time that Melton Mowbray have ever won it. Club Captain, Brendan Boyce and Lady Captain Karen Middleton are thrilled to have the honour of winning the title in their Captain’s year and bringing the shield to sit proudly in the Melton Mowbray GC Clubhouse.
