12 of the Seniors from Melton Mowbray Golf Club travelled to Mapperley Golf Club on 12th April hoping to get back to winning ways after a loss away to Beedles Lake Golf Club. Prior to the match, both teams held a minute’s silence in respect for Tom Eadon a member of MMGC and the Seniors’ Section who recently passed away. Mapperley is a fairly hilly course unlike Melton’s flat parkland course, which Melton players found quite hard to adapt to. There was a chilly wind throughout the whole encounter and their course was found to be in very good condition. Melton were certainly up against it as the first three matches went against them with big wins for Mapperley, before the pairing of Joe Carrington and Richard Faubert turned the tide with a 5 & 4 win. The next match went to the away team which gave them the overall win and the final pairing of Richard Haines and Paul Heaver (a last minute replacement) came home winners with a 2 & 1 win. The final score was a 4 & 2 win for Mapperley Golf Club.
