On a challenging autumnal day, 126 golfers braved the cool and damp conditions in Tony Westwood’s Pro’s Day. Teams of four competed in an AM-AM format, playing to win the overall prize and the Jocelyn Westwood Memorial Trophy. Scoring was excellent with the top ten teams all scoring in excess of 86 Stableford points, with the best two scores to count on each hole. A big thanks must go to Tony for organising and running the day so well and to his family and friends for superb hospitality at the halfway house, especially the made-to-order pancakes.
There were ‘Nearest the Pin’ prizes on all the Par 3s with Kathie Finn, Geoff Townsend, Sam Parker and Russell Freeman all hitting the target. The challenging ‘In the Bucket Challenge’ was successfully completed by only one golfer on the day, with Malcolm Farrow winning. The Best Mixed Team scored 80 points and included Jackie Fisher, Nick McDonald, Liz and Haydn Snow. The winning Ladies’ Team scored 75 points and comprised Janet Bentley, Margaret Smale, Margaret Samways and Glynis Breward. The four leading teams in the overall competition were:
1st Alan Parkes, Eric Parkes, Russell Freeman and David Stroud 89 points – back nine 46
2nd David Bailey, JP O’Reilly, Nigel Blunt and David McKain 89 points – back nine 44
3rd Mike Catlin, Ben Catlin, John Harvey and Sue Hitchman 88 points – back nine 46
4th Nick Baines, Mick Pollard, Tim Mortimer and Mick Ward 88 points – back nine
The day was concluded with a prize presentation and a chance to relax, drink and share chilli and chips.
