On Saturday 23rd June in glorious sunshine, 78 players took part in the Petfood’s Trophy, which is restricted to handicaps of 20 and under. A further 20 players with handicaps over 20 took part in the third round of the Compton Cup.
The winner with a excellent nett 63 was George Boddy, in second place with a nett 66 was Ian Townsend and in third place with a nett 67 was Sam Pollard. Sam also recorded the best gross of 68 and on the basis of this score, must be congratulated for his new scratch handicap!
The course must also have been playing generously as there were no fewer than 11 twos in the twos sweep. The players who shared in this bonus were George Boddy, Gary Kitchen, Brian Cole, Ian Plant, Mike Catlin, Adrian Stokes, Mick Wilson, Ian Townsend, Dale Radford, Tim Mortimer and Phil Curtis.
In the Compton Cup, the winner was David Bailey with a nett 70, second was James Cartwright with a nett 71 and third was Sam Wright with a nett 72. There were no twos for these players so the Twos Sweep was included in the prize money.
