Phil Millward and Tom Eadon secured a superb win today (23
Sept) in the County Senior Foursomes match play knockout Competition a first for Melton Mowbray Golf Club since the County Competition began 26 years ago in 1989.
Giving 8 shots to their Willesley Park opponents Tom and Phil knew they had a fight ahead of them around the testing neutral ground of Longcliffe Golf Course . However they started well winning the first two holes and 6 up after 11. The Willesley team pulled a hole back but couldn’t counter Melton’s accuracy playing into the greens. Leaving the 13th hole Dormie 5 Phil and Tom needed a half to win the match on the 14th but after Phil had stiffed a chip into the flag to within 3 inches the Willesley pair conceded the hole and the match to secure a 5 and 4 win for Melton.
Club Captain Brendan Boyce and senior member Dave Beasley followed the match, Brendan praising how well Phil and Tom had played and delighted to have a second County shield to display at the Club.
Tom and Phil are thrilled to have continued the County sucesses achieved by the Mixed Foursomes and Gents Scratch League and B Teams to end the season on a high for the Club within the County and have played a part in the making of two pieces of Club history this year.
