About 30 ladies came to the club last Wednesday morning for coffee and about 19 or 20 stayed for an impromptu indoor putting competition with Tony. He used cones to form 6 holes and, individually and in teams, we each played the “course”. We played to rules of golf so if you went “out of bounds” (outside Tony’s set course) you had to start again with 2 penalty points. Then we played a killer putting competition that Tony had devised. Everyone enjoyed taking part and there was a lot of hilarity in the groups. It was good to see so many ladies there, despite the weather.
Alison Gatward won the individual competition with 12 putts over the 6 holes (almost Charley Hull standards) which was really good as there were a couple of tricky dogleg holes. Fay Hutton was runner-up with 13 putts. Both ladies stayed within the course on each hole – not an easy task! Jean Moulds was the winner of Tony’s “killer putt” competition. We all paid £1 to play with half of the proceeds going to the Lady Captain’s charity and the other half to the winners. Jean very kindly donated her winnings to the charity. The total raised was £19 which goes towards our lovely sponsored dog, Mavis. Thanks must also go to Tony Westwood for organising a fun morning for the ladies and making sure that our putting skills were put to the test.
