SENIOR CAPTAIN’S AWAY DAY 4th August 2025

If it were possible to dictate the weather for an away day of golf, this wouldn’t have been it.

There were 23 hardy golfers who faced wintry conditions with horizontal rain and wind gusts over 50 mph for most of the game.  However, spirits remained high and we enjoyed a well prepared parkland course.

Catering and hospitality was really good and well received as players were treated to hot drinks and bacon baps on arrival and a two course meal afterwards.

The format was a team game with the best two scores recorded on each hole in a Stableford system. Scores exceeded expectations given the weather conditions with the victorious team of Richard Grieve, Nigel Vernon and David Wells achieving 75 points with 13 pars, well ahead of the rest of the field.  The team of Neil Farish, Julian Kisiel, Ken Longbottom and Jim McQuillan came second with an aggregated score of 67 points and Martin Hall, Richard Haines and Pete Rayers came in third with 64 points on countback.

Nearest the pin on the day was won by Nigel Vernon with Ken Livingstone winning the nearest the pin in two prize.

Although it took us all a while to dry off, everyone seemed to enjoy the day and the after game festivities and looking forward to returning to South Kyme should they agree to join our fixture list next season.
