On Tuesday 7th August, Seniors’ Captain Jerzy Schmidt held his away day at Rutland Water Golf Club. In hot, humid and sunny weather, the fairways were extremely dry and hard, which made playing quite tricky and the undulating greens exacerbated the difficult playing conditions. Teams were selected from 3 different handicap divisions and everyone played a Stableford competition with the best two scores counting on each hole.
The winning team of David Bentley, Julian Kisiel and Bill Fisher came in with an excellent 81 points. In second place were John Squires, Denis Dayman and Bob Lemon with 76 points with Owen Cook, Ray Stone and Steve Harris third on 74 points.
Other prizewinners on the day were: David Bentley (longest drive on the 9th), Richard Haines (nearest the pin in 2 on the third), Vic Newham (nearest the pin on the 7th) and Ray Stone (nearest the pin on the 12th).
David Hirst, Haydn Snow, Julian Kisiel, John Squires, Richard Haines and Ray Stone shared a “birdies nest” for players achieving a gross birdie, eagle or better on any hole.
