The weather was a little unbalanced for the day with some light rain and gusts, but the course held up well with greens starting to come back to their best after summer maintenance.
This was a betterball matchplay format with pairs being drawn out of a hat and verified by witnesses prior to the day.
The match was a tight affair with the result hanging in the balance until the final group completed their round.
There were wins for Neil Farish and Graham Page (2 & 1), Joe Carrington and John Squires (4 & 3), David Bentley and Ray Catton (4 & 2), Bob Purkis and Dave Gatward (3 & 2), Nick Humphries and David Wells (1 up), Mick Cavani and Mark Beaglehole (3 & 2), Dennis Dayman and Ken Longbottom (3 & 2) and Mike Hoggan and JP O’Reilly (1 up). The final result ended in a victory for the Captains Team 5 – 3.
There was some time taken at the nineteenth hole to share the experiences of each of the pairs games much to the amusement of a convivial crowd that stayed till the end. Another great day had by all. Thank you to all who took part.
