The Seniors’ Open, sponsored by Twinlakes Park Melton Mowbray, attracted 92 golfers playing in teams of four, consisting of 2 gents and 2 ladies. The format was a Stableford with 1 gent and 1 lady to score on each of the holes. The weather was sunshine all day with a slight and most welcomed breeze, that with a well manicured course proved to be the correct combination for some excellent golf. A late entry by Club Captain Gerry Stephens proved to be most fruitful as his team came away with the top prize. There were golfers from all over the Midlands and everyone commented on the excellent condition of the course and they were made most welcome by Melton staff and

The outcome was very close with only 2 points separating the first 4 teams. The overall winners were: Club Captain Gerry Stephens, Club Chairman Glenn Price, Margaret Samways and Jean Moulds with 82 pts. 2nd place on count back (OCB) Haydn Snow, John Harvey, Liz Snow and Liz Clark (MMGC) with 81 pts. 3rd place P Hawkins, K Garratt, A Hawkins and J Garratt (Rugby GC) with 81 pts. 4th place Jim McQuillan, Nick McDonald, Maureen McCall and Jackie Fisher with 80 points on count back (OCB).
