There were 42 players that took to the course to compete for the Derek Goodacre Trophy on the Senior Captains Home Day on Tuesday 22 July 2025.
For the first time in months, the weather forecasters were against us providing a few showers and gusting winds, but the course held up well and there were a number of good scores in the singles stableford format.
With hot drinks and bacon baps provided beforehand and a welcome glass of port with sausage rolls after the event, the players were all well catered for and left dried out.
The winner was JP O’Reilly with a creditable score (considering the conditions) of 40 points, closely followed by Brendan Boyce on 39 points and third going to Brian Shillham on count back from the Seniors Captain (he won’t get picked again). There were also prizes for nearest the pin on the 7th and nearest in two on the 3rd. Although a little damp, many mentioned that they had enjoyed a great day with a buzzing sociable vibe in the clubhouse afterwards. A big thank you to all those involved in making the day a success and for all of those who braved the elements.
