On Tuesday 25th June (JUNE I might add!!) the annual Jack Wildman Trophy took place where the Seniors’ Captain, Dick Chapman, and Lady Captain, Nancy Denny, invited members from their sections to play in a mixed Greensomes match. Twelve pairs arrived at the Clubhouse in good cheer despite the continuous rain forecast for the day. Although the first tee time was delayed by half an hour to try to allow the worst of the weather to pass, no-one escaped the wet which dogged the entire 18 holes. The format was a Stableford competition off half combined handicaps and even though many players returned to the Clubhouse more bedraggled than usual, everyone enjoyed the event.
In first place and winners of the Trophy were Club Captain Gerry Stephens and Margaret Hoskins with an excellent 40 points. Gerry (off 6) took full advantage of the shots that Margaret brought to the pairing, but she held her own by sinking a 25 foot putt on the 14th for a 2, nett 1 for 4 points! In second place were David Bentley and Anne Creed with 38 points and in third place were Haydn Snow and Alison Gatward with 37 points. Anne Creed, Jack Wildman’s daughter, very kindly presented the trophy to the winners.
