Will Aces the 5th on Captain’s Day!

14 year old Will Fairbrother was one of the star performers on Captain’s Day at Melton Mowbray Golf Will Fairbrother Hole in One 2Club as he holed in one on the 180 yard 5th hole – the nearest the pin for the gents! Wills dad Alex and playing partners whoops of delight could be heard across the course. It won him a box of choclates for the nearest the pin prize at prize presentation!

Club Captain, Brendan Boyce was delighted to welcome a total of 155 members onto the tee throughout a lovely sunny summer day on Saturday. The course was in absolutely stunning condition and the greens were superb.

The 7/8th handicap stableford Overall winner was Jon Wade with a terrific 43 points.

The gents 0 to 14 handicap winner Tony South’s 39 points had led the competition from mid-morning until late afternoon. Kieran Foster took runner up spot on count back from senior member Tom Eadon both shot 37 points. Kieran also won the Captain’s Cup, donated in 1999 by Alan Newton and is  presented on Captain’s Day for the lowest nett score by a single figure handicap player.

15 to 28 handicap was won by Scott Cartwright 36 points on count back from 2nd placed Eric Hallgren also 36, Alan Smith was in third spot with 34 points. Captains Day Gents

The ladies section competition was close with Julia Brown first on 35 points, 2nd Maureen Stapleford on 34 with 3 other ladies scoring 33 points. Captain’s Day Ladies

James Daulby’s 34 points won the Junior first prize and runner up  Will Fairbrother finished with 33 points. Captain’s Day Juniors

The Best Past Captain score was Ray Smith on count back from Guy Rayson both with 35 points. The Men’s longest drive was won by David Hirst and the ladies by Sue Hitchman.

The evening Prize Presentation was really well supported with a Barbeque and live music from “2 Gents play the pops” and Brendan was delighted to have raised more than £400 on the day for his Captain’s Charity. Finally Brian Cole won the Key to the Door Jackpot which had rolled over for several weeks and gave a great finish to a truly great day.
