Lady Captain’s Away Weekend – Wyboston Lakes

Seventeen ladies joined Jackie Fisher, Lady Captain, at Wyboston Lakes just south of St Neots on the A1 for two days of golf on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th May. The first team game involved the equivalent of a ‘golden’ ball giving players in turn double points on their individual score to add to their team mates’ score. However, if that ‘golden’ ball was lost, the opportunity for double scoring was also lost. Needless to say, Wyboston Lakes lived up to its name with plenty of water around the course, and no team completed the 18 holes with their ‘golden’ ball – except one for reasons we won’t disclose!!

The second day was a traditional 3 ball waltz and thankfully, it was a much quieter round due to the absence of the jet skiers from the previous day. We could even hear the cuckoo calling. The main hazard was avoiding the amount of goose droppings on the course and trying no to hit the geese. Sadly, there was at least one casualty, although it seemed to be unhurt.

Everyone had a great time, enjoying playing with different people and on a different course. The games, company and food were all excellent. Jackie had organised a range of prizes for first, second and third on both days, along with players who were closest to the pin on each day. She was thanked for all her hard work in making this visit such a memorable weekend.
